Manager Bud Black said Sunday that the Padres are considering a personnel change in the fifth spot in their starting rotation for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Germano is currently the fifth starter in the rotation but he's struggling at 0-3 with a 6.35 ERA in six starts this season, and allowed 21 runs over his last three outings.

Justin Germano has locked up the fifth spot in the Padres' starting rotation, according to MLB.com. He has been the most consistent starter for the Padres this spring and Manager Black added, "I thought he pitched very well this spring, he answered the challenge of competing with a few other guys who were vying for that spot. We thought that some of the improvements he made in his game showed and hopefully that they carry over to the regular season." He will aim to improve on a 7-10 record of 2007.

Justin Germano, a candidate for the last spot in the Padres rotation, is out of options, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. It's possible this could increase his chances at winning the job, as the Pads would probably lose him if they tried to put him through waivers. Shawn Estes and perhaps Enrique Gonzalez are also in the mix for the No. 5 job, as is Mark Prior once he's healthy.

Manager Bud Black has said that Justin Germano might not make his scheduled start next Monday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Germano has struggled big time lately, going 1-6 with a 5.71 ERA in his last 10 starts. Black hasn't said who might fill in for Germano, but Jack Cassel is an option.
