Jared Burton is ready to head out on a rehab assignment, according to MLB.com. The Reds reliever threw 30 pitches over two simulated innings at on Tuesday. "It went awesome," said Burton, who is coming back from a strained lat. "My pitches had the late life that I needed. The command was even better today. That's the thing I was happy about."

Jared Burton threw a bullpen session Friday at 70 percent intensity, according to MLB.com. Recovering from a strained lat muscle, Burton has been on the disabled list since July 19. "I will hopefully test it out a little more on Sunday and see how it goes," Burton said.

The Reds were hoping that shutting down Jared Burton for the three-game series right before All-Star break along with the All-Star break would be enough for him to recover from his strained right latissimus muscle, but at three weeks later, he is still suffering from the injury, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Burton said, "It's frustrating. I was going to try to test it Monday in a game situation but it wouldn't cooperate. It feels good when I long toss, but when I get on the mound and go at game speed, I feel it."
